Equipment

  • Gallon-Sized Ziplock Bag
  • Rimmed Baking Sheet

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Olive Oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon Onion Powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Ground Black Pepper
  • 3 tablespoons Crushed Red Pepper
  • 2 ounces Packages Ranch Dressing Mix 2 packages
  • 16 ounces Saltine Crackers 4 sleeves

Instructions

  • Prepare the seasoning. Combine the onion powder, garlic powder, black pepper, red pepper flakes, and Ranch Dressing Mix (a store-bought packet also works), by whisking them together. Drizzle in the olive oil and whisk until mixed.
  • Marinate. Take the saltine crackers and transfer them into a gallon-sized Ziplock bag. Then, pour the olive oil mixture into the bag. Give the bag a gentle shake, ensuring you turn it over a few times to ensure all the crackers are evenly coated. Leave the bag on the counter for a span of 2 hours, or even overnight if preferred, and remember to flip it occasionally to maintain an even coating.
  • Bake. Heat the oven to 250ºF and spread the crackers out onto a baking sheet (use 2 if you need them). Bake them for 15 minutes until they're golden brown.

Notes

  • Make-ahead Instructions: For optimal results, I suggest marinating the crackers overnight, making it ideal to prepare this recipe in advance. Simply follow the recipe up to the marinating step. Allow the crackers to marinate overnight before your planned serving time, then proceed with baking them as directed the following day.
  • Storage Information: To store Alabama Fire Crackers, place them in an airtight container or resealable bag, ensuring they are well-sealed to preserve freshness. Keep them in a cool, dry place, away from moisture or humidity.
