Ingredients

  • 4 Passion Fruit
  • 1/2 cup Sugar
  • 1/2 cup Water

Instructions

  • Dissolve the sugar. Place the water and sugar into a medium-sized saucepan over medium heat. Let the sugar dissolve, stirring occasionally for about 3 to 5 minutes. Then reduce the heat to low.
  • Add the passion fruit. Slice the passion fruits open and scoop out the pulp. Place the pulp into the saucepan and allow it to simmer for 5 to 10 minutes.
  • Strain. Strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve, but don't press down on the pulp because it will make the syrup cloudy. Allow it to cool completely before transferring it to a bottle or jar.
  • Store. Pour the cooled syrup into a jar and store it in the fridge.

Notes

  • Choose ripe passion fruits: The quality of your passion fruit cocktail syrup will largely depend on the ripeness of your passion fruits. Choose fruits that are fully ripe and have wrinkled skin, as these will be the sweetest and most flavorful.
  • For a thicker syrup - The amount of sugar you use will depend on your personal preference and the sweetness of your passion fruits. If you'd like a thicker syrup increase the sugar amount to 1 cup, and allow it to simmer for about 20 minutes. This will also produce a sweeter syrup.
  • Store properly: To ensure the longest shelf life, store your passion fruit syrup in a clean, airtight jar in the refrigerator. You can also freeze it for longer storage.

Storage

Allow the syrup to reach room temperature before transferring it to an airtight jar. For optimal freshness, it is recommended to use the syrup within a short period after preparation, although it can be refrigerated for up to three weeks. If you wish to freeze it, pour the syrup into a freezer-safe container and store it in the freezer for up to three months.
