- 3/4 cup Sugar
- 1 cup Water
- 1/4 cup Maple Syrup
- 24 ounces Fresh Cranberries
- 1/4 teaspoon Cinnamon
- 1/8 teaspoon Salt
- 1/2 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
- 3 tablespoons Bourbon
Dissolve the sugar. Heat the water and sugar over medium heat until they come to a rolling boil, allowing the sugar to completely dissolve, about 1 minute.
Simmer. Add 3/4 of the cranberries into the mixture, along with the maple syrup, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt. Allow the mixture to simmer for an additional minute while maintaining a gentle boil. Then, reduce the heat to a low simmer and let it cook for 10 minutes, giving the cranberries time to burst with flavor.
Blend. Use an immersion blender to create a sauce by blending approximately half of the cranberries, making sure to retain some whole berries for texture and depth of flavor.
Add the remaining cranberries and flavor. Add the remaining berries and allow them to cook in the mixture for 5 remaining minutes. Remove from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract and bourbon.
- Make-Ahead Instructions: Prepare the recipe as directed and allow the cranberry sauce to cool completely. Transfer the sauce to an airtight container, refrigerate it, and store it for up to several days before serving.
- Storage Instructions: To store bourbon cranberry sauce, allow it to cool to room temperature. Transfer it to an airtight container and seal it properly. Refrigerate the sauce, where it can be safely stored for up to a week.
- Freezing Information: Transfer the sauce to a freezer-safe container once cooled, leaving some space at the top for expansion. Seal the container tightly to prevent freezer burn. Freeze for up to 2-3 months. When you're ready to use it, thaw the sauce in the refrigerator and reheat as needed.
