Servings: 4 Servings
- 1½ lbs Ground Beef
- 1/2 cup Breadcrumbs
- 3 tablespoons Olive Oil
- 2 tablespoons Ketchup
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce
- 1 teaspoon Mustard Powder
- 1 Egg
- 1/2 teaspoon Salt and Pepper (each)
- 2 tablespoons Butter
- 1 tablespoon Olive Oil
- 6 ounces Mushrooms
- 1/2 Onion diced
- 2 cups Beef Broth
- 1/4 cup Ketchup
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire Sauce
- 1 tablespoon Cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon Warm Water
In a large mixing bowl combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, 3 tablespoons olive oil, ketchup, 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, mustard powder, egg, and salt and pepper. Use your hands to mix the ingredients until evenly combined and then divide into quarters and shape into a round patty (about 1-inch in thickness).
Place a large heavy-bottomed or cast-iron skillet over medium heat and melt the butter. Add the patties and cook on each side for about 5 to 7 minutes or until the center reaches 160ºF and the sides are slightly crispy and the patty is cooked through.
Remove patties and set aside on a plate for later.
In the same skillet and the remaining olive oil, mushroom, and diced onion. Cook until tender, about 3 to 5 minutes and use a slotted spoon to remove and place on the same plate as the patties.
Add the beef broth, ketchup, and Worcestershire sauce to the skillet and stir to combine.
Create a slurry in a small bowl by whisking the cornstarch and warm water together until the cornstarch has completely dissolved. Pour into the skillet and stir into the gravy mixture. Bring the gravy to a boil and reduce heat to low.
Place the patties and the mushroom mixture back into the skillet and let simmer until the gravy thickens, about 5 more minutes.
