Crockpot Sweet Potato Turkey Chili

This Crockpot Sweet Potato Turkey Chili is slightly sweet and has a slight spice to it. The gluten-free dish is soul-soothing and great for meal prep.

Ingredients

  • 4 Garlic Cloves minced
  • 1 tablespoon Coconut Oil
  • 1 medium Onion diced
  • 2 lbs Ground Turkey
  • 1 Sweet Potato peeled and chopped
  • 28 ounces Crushed Tomatoes
  • 2 cups Tomato Sauce
  • 15 ounces Dark Red Kidney Beans
  • 15 ounces Kidney Beans
  • 3 tablespoons Brown Sugar
  • 2 teaspoons Chili Powder divided
  • 1 tablespoon Cumin

Instructions

  • Heat the coconut oil in a medium-sized skillet over medium-high heat. Add the minced garlic cloves cook until they are slightly brown and become fragrant for about 2 minutes.
  • Place the ground turkey in the same skillet to brown the meat. Season with 1 teaspoon of chili powder and use a spatula to break the meat into small bits as it browns.
  • Add the turkey mixture to the crockpot with the sweet potatoes, crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, both beans, brown sugar, remaining chili powder, and cumin.
  • Cover the crockpot and cook on low for 5 hours or on high for 3 hours. Stir occasionally (if you can).

Notes

Chili is one of those dishes you can continue to season throughout the cooking process. With this particular dish, I often like to check on it add more of each of the spices as I go. You can also add additional spices such as Garlic Powder and Onion Powder.
