Equipment

  • Electric Mixer or handheld mixer

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Heavy Whipping Cream
  • 1/4 cup Cocoa Powder
  • 1/4 cup Powdered Sugar
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla Extract

Instructions

  • Add the ingredients to a mixing bowl. Pour heavy whipping cream (make sure it is cold and straight from the refrigerator), cocoa powder, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract into the bowl of an electric mixer or a mixing bowl.
  • Whip the mixture. Using a hand mixer or a stand mixer fitted with a whisk attachment, start whipping the cream on low speed, gradually increasing to medium-high speed. Whip until the cream thickens and stiff peaks form. This should take a few minutes. Be careful not to over-whip the cream, as it may result in a grainy texture.

Notes

Troubleshooting Common Issues

  • Over-Whipping: Over-whipping can lead to it becoming lumpy or grainy in texture. To avoid this, be cautious and keep a close eye on the cream as you whip it. Stop whipping as soon as stiff peaks form, and avoid over-beating.
  • Deflating: If your whipped cream loses its shape and becomes runny or deflates, it may have been over-whipped or mixed too vigorously. To fix this, gently fold in additional whipped cream or gently re-whip with a whisk or hand mixer until it reaches the desired consistency.
  • Too Sweet or Not Sweet Enough: Achieving the perfect level of sweetness can be subjective. If your whipped cream is too sweet, you can adjust by adding more unsweetened cocoa powder or reducing the amount of powdered sugar. Conversely, if it's not sweet enough, you can add more powdered sugar or sweeteners to taste.
  • Cocoa Powder Clumps: Cocoa powder tends to clump, which can result in lumps in the whipped cream. To prevent this, sift the cocoa powder before adding it to the cream to remove any lumps.
