Equipment

Ingredients

  • 4 to 5 Apples sliced, no need to peel them
  • 1 cup Water
  • 1/2 cup Brown Sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon Cinnamon optional

Instructions

  • Heat the ingredients. In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the sliced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, and water, stirring occasionally until the sugar completely dissolves.
  • Simmer. Let the mixture simmer for 20 minutes until the apples have softened and the syrup is a dark golden brown.
  • Strain. Strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve to remove the apple slices. Pour into a jar with an air-tight lid. Store it in the fridge.

Notes

  • To thicken the syrup: To thicken apple syrup, simmer it over low to medium heat until most of the water content evaporates, leaving a thicker consistency. You can also add a small amount of cornstarch mixed with water and stir it into the syrup while heating to achieve a thicker texture.
  • When straining the mixture through the sieve avoid mashing the apples into the sieve. This will cause you to end up with cloudy syrup. Simply pour it through the sieve and discard the sediment.
  • Add spices. Feel free to customize the flavor by adding spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, or cloves to enhance the syrup's taste.
  • Freeze it for longer storage. Consider freezing extra syrup in ice cube trays for longer preservation, and then transfer the frozen cubes to an airtight container for future use.
