Equipment

  • Trifle Bowl or 9x13 baking dish

Ingredients

  • 15 ounce bag Oreos family size
  • 1/2 cup Butter softened
  • 8 ounces Cream Cheese softened
  • 1/2 cup Powdered Sugar
  • cups Milk
  • 2 5.1 ounce boxes Instant Vanilla Pudding
  • 12 ounces Cool Whip

Instructions

  • Pulse the Oreos in a food processor or crush them inside a Ziploc bag until they result in fine crumbs. Reserve ⅓ of the crumbles for later.
  • Pour the cookie crumbles into the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking dish or a trifle bowl and press them together firmly. If you want multiple layers place only half of the Oreo crumbs on the bottom.
  • In a large bowl with a handheld mixer, or using the paddle attachment of an electric mixer, beat the butter and cream cheese together until smooth. Sift powdered sugar into the bowl and mix it in before adding the vanilla and combining.
  • Using a rubber spatula, gently fold the Cool Whip into the mixture.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the vanilla pudding mixture and milk until smooth. Let the mixture sit for about 4 minutes until the pudding is thickened.
  • Fold the pudding into the cream cheese mixture and spread it evenly over the Oreo crumb crust.
  • Sprinkle the top of the cake with the remaining Oreo crumbs, cover the dish, and let it set in the refrigerator for about 4 hours before serving.

Notes

  • Make it into individual servings. You can use individual dessert bowls or even small plastic drinking cups to arrange the dirt cake into individual servings.
  • Add gummy worms! If you plan on serving this to kids or at a party will kids will be in attendance I recommend adding some gummy worms to the top of the cake. The kids will absolutely love it.
  • Create layers. If using a clear trifle dish to serve this, you can crush some extra Oreos and sprinkle them between layers of the cream filling for an impressive appearance.
  • Decorate your Oreo Dirt Cake. You can reserve some whole Oreos and garnish the top of the cake with them or use some fresh fruit like strawberries for a pop of color.
  • Crush Oreos Into Varying Sizes. Using a food processor will create evenly-shaped grains of cookies, but using a rolling pin means that some pieces will be larger while others are fine. This will add some nice texture and extra chocolatey bites!

Storage and or Freezing Instructions

  • Make-ahead instructions: It’s not recommended that you make this Oreo dirt cake recipe too far in advance, since the cookies may become soggy when kept too long in the refrigerator. The best way to serve this is to make it one day ahead of time so that it sets up in the refrigerator overnight.
  • Freezing instructions: Freeze in an airtight container for up to one month and thaw for about 24 hours in the refrigerator.
  • Storage instructions: This cake is best kept stored in the refrigerator and served chilled. This will stay good in the fridge for about three days.
