Equipment

  • Baking Sheet
  • Pizza Cutter or Knife

Ingredients

Instructions

  • Prep. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and line a baking sheet with parchment or a silicone baking mat.
  • Cut the pastry. Gently roll out your thawed puff pastry sheet, ensuring a smooth and even layer. Then using a pizza cutter or a Chef's knife slice the pastry into square or rectangle shapes.
  • Bake. Arrange the puff pastry square on the prepared baking sheet leaving room between each one. Bake for 12 minutes or until the tops become flaky and golden brown.
  • Slice open the pastry. Using a sharp knife carefully slice open the puff pastry on one of the layered ends.
  • Fill the pastry. Fill a piping bag with Nutella or just use a butter knife, which is my preference, and pipe or spread the Nutella into the opening of each puff pastry.
  • Add some topping. Drizzle the top of each pastry with some caramel sauce and dust them with powdered sugar.

Notes

  • Cut smaller shapes. When cutting the puff pastry aim to cut smaller shapes around 2 to 3 inches in width.
  • Keep the Dough Cold. Work quickly and handle the puff pastry dough as little as possible to prevent the butter from melting. If the dough becomes too warm or soft, place it in the refrigerator for a few minutes to firm up before continuing.
  • Use an egg wash for a golden color. Before baking, brush the pastries with an egg wash (a beaten egg or egg mixed with a little milk) to give them a beautiful golden brown color and a shiny appearance.
  • Get Creative. Feel free to experiment with different shapes, sizes, and additional toppings. Consider adding a sprinkle of powdered sugar, a drizzle of caramel or chocolate sauce, or a dusting of finely chopped nuts for added flavor and visual appeal.
