Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup Butter softened
  • 2 tablespoons Brown Sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon Nutmeg
  • pinch Cloves
  • pinch Allspice
  • pinch Salt
  • 2 ounces Dark Spiced Rum or dark rum
  • 6 ounces Hot Water

Instructions

  • Prepare the spiced butter. Use a spoon to mash and mix the softened butter, brown sugar, and spices together in a small mixing bowl.
  • Add the butter and rum to a mug. Place 1 to 2 tablespoons of the spiced butter into the bottom of a mug and pour the rum into the glass. Dark spiced rum is the best rum to use.
  • Pour in steaming water. Gently add the steaming hot water to the glass containing the spiced butter and rum, and stir diligently to ensure a thorough blending of the cocktail.

Notes

  • Use apple cider instead of water: Combine hot apple cider with the traditional spiced butter and rum mixture instead of hot water for a fruity twist.
  • Use maple syrup: Swap brown sugar with maple syrup for a rich, maple-flavored variation.
  • Make a large batch. For a large batch, gather these ingredients: 8 tablespoons of softened butter (1 stick), 1/2 cup of brown sugar, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, 1/2 teaspoon of nutmeg (or a nutmeg substitute), 1/4 teaspoon of cloves, 1/4 teaspoon of allspice, and a pinch of salt. Combine these in a large pot with 3 cups of water, bringing it to a boil. Serve by adding 2 ounces of dark spiced rum to each glass, topping it off with the spiced butter mixture.
