Also known as the pink ombre drink, this fun beverage is now as classic as Thai Iced Tea and just as delicious too. It’s a better option than choosing the super sugary drinks at Starbucks and tastes better when made at home just like Italian Soda.

Why This Recipe is Great

  • Only need 5 ingredients: You might be wondering what’s in a pink drink and to make one it only takes 5 ingredients, two of which are water and ice. In addition, you only need passion tea bags, white grape juice, and coconut milk. You can add freeze-dried strawberries just like the Starbucks version or like this Strawberry Latte.
  • Quick to make: Once you brew the tea, which only takes a few minutes the rest of the ingredients are poured over ice into your cup. You can be sipping this pink drink at home in less time than it takes to go through the Starbucks drive-thru.
  • Cheaper than going to Starbucks: You’ll have enough to make a minimum of 15 drinks (probably many more), which will save you tons of money rather than buying it.

Ingredients

Ingredients for DIY pink drink.
  • Passion Tea Bags – the best tea bags to use are Tazo Iced Passion Tea bags or regular Tazo brand passion tea. Other brands will work and produce the same flavor, however, the Tazo brand gives the drink a bright pink color other tea bags do not.
  • White Grape Juice – adding white grape juice brings a slight sweetness to the drink without affecting the color.
  • Coconut Milk – I use canned coconut milk but you could also use milk, cream, or even other dairy-free options such as almond milk or oat milk.
  • Freeze-Dried Strawberries – mixing these in are optional, but they do make the drink extra pretty. You can also use fresh or frozen strawberries.

How to Make a Pink Drink at Home

Recipe steps 1 and 2 for making a pink drink at home.
  1. Brew the tea. Place the tea bag in a large measuring cup and then bring the water to a soft boil. Pour the water over the tea bag and let the tea steep for 1 to 2 minutes. Remove the bag and throw it out.
  2. Add the juice. Pour the white grape juice into the measuring cup and stir it to combine.
Pink drink process steps 3 and 4.
  1. Prepare the drink. Fill a tall glass with ice and pour the tea mixture into the bottom filling the cup to about halfway.
  2. Top it off. Pour the coconut milk on top of the tea mixture and stir gently to just slightly combine it. If using stir in some freeze-dried strawberries.

Notes and Tips

  • To get the pink coloring you must use the Tazo passion tea bags brand. Other brands will make the same taste, however, their color is not as bold.
  • Avoid coconut milk clumps in your drink by pouring the coconut milk through a mesh sieve before using it to top off your drink.
  • Make it sweeter. If this beverage isn’t sweet enough you can add honey, maple syrup, or even your favorite sweetener. You can also use Starbucks vanilla syrup for added flavor.
  • Make it even faster. The tea brews more than you will need for one cup so pour it into a jar with a lid and keep it stored in the fridge. Then you can whip your drink up quicker than any barista.
