Ingredients Needed

Similar to the Black Widow Cocktail, the Full Moon Cocktail incorporates activated charcoal to impart its distinctive black hue. This culinary alchemy not only gives the drink its captivating appearance but also adds a layer of intrigue to the overall experience. As you savor the Full Moon Cocktail, the activated charcoal remains a silent partner, ensuring that every sip embodies the essence of a moonlit night, both in flavor and visual allure.

Full moon cocktail ingredients.
  • Pomegranate Juice – Pomegranate juice adds a rich, fruity sweetness and a subtle tartness. It contributes depth of flavor and complexity, balancing the other ingredients
  • Chambord – Chambord elevates the drink with its sweet, fruity, and slightly tart raspberry flavor. Chambord is a premium black raspberry liqueur known for its lush, sweet, and fruity flavor with subtle hints of vanilla.
  • Grenadine – Grenadine in the Full Moon Cocktail contributes a touch of sweetness. You can also make your own Grenadine Syrup or use a Grenadine Substitute if you don’t have any.
  • Activated Charcoal – Activated charcoal serves as a natural food coloring agent, giving the drink its striking black color while remaining tasteless, allowing the other flavors to shine.
  • Ice Sphere – The ice sphere not only chills the drink but also symbolizes the full moon, adding a visually captivating and thematic element to the presentation. You will need an ice ball mold to make one.

A note on activated charcoal: Activated charcoal is generally safe for consumption in small amounts for specific purposes, such as in cocktails or for addressing certain types of poisoning or digestive issues. To ensure safety, use food-grade activated charcoal, distinct from charcoal used for grilling, and use it in moderation. Excessive consumption can hinder nutrient and medication absorption. If you have health conditions, take medications, or are uncertain about its use, consult a healthcare professional beforehand.

Recipe Notes and Tips

  • Activated Charcoal: Use food-grade activated charcoal in very small quantities to achieve the desired black color. Start with a pinch and gradually add more if needed, ensuring you don’t overpower the other flavors.
  • Presentation: Serve the Full Moon Cocktail in a clear glass to showcase its stunning visual contrast, with the ice sphere symbolizing the full moon at the top.
  • You can have the grenadine settle at the bottom of the glass. Similar to the Pineapple Vodka Cocktail you can settle the grenadine at the bottom, though it won’t be quite as pronounced. Don’t include the grenadine in the cocktail shaker instead pour it carefully down the side of the glass, allowing it to settle at the bottom.
