A slight twist on a classic, this Pink Margarita is tangy and tart with a hint of sweetness. The splash of grenadine makes this cocktail fun and festive with a unique flavor. Make a single serving or serve it pitcher-style.
Margaritas are one of the most popular cocktails and for good reason. They have a refreshing flavor that is delicious year-round whether you’re enjoying a Classic Margarita or a White Christmas Margarita.
There’s also no reason to mess with a good thing, which is why this margarita version has only. a slight twist, or splash that is. The secret to this pink color is adding a splash of Grenadine, which also adds a hint of flavor too. This cocktail also makes for a festive Valentine’s margarita.
Ingredients Needed
The ingredients in this margarita are similar to a classic version, with the addition of grenadine. Don’t have any grenadine? Try some of these Grenadine Substitutes instead for a unique, but still delicious version.
- Tequila
- Fresh Squeezed Lime Juice
- Orange Liqueur
- Grenadine
- Agave Syrup
How to Make a Pink Margarita
- Line the rim of the glass. Run a lime wedge along the rim of your glass to coat it in the lime juice. This will help the salt adhere to the edge.
- Salt the rim. Pour the salt into a shallow flat plate or bowl and dip the rim of the glass into the salt so the entire edge is coated.
- Add ingredients to a cocktail shaker. Pour all the ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
- Shake and strain. Shake vigorously. Fill the prepared glass with ice and strain the mixture into the glass. Garnish if desired.
Recipe Variations
- Make it frozen. Add a cup of ice and pour the ingredients into a blender to blend up a smooth and icy frozen version of this margarita.
- Use a substitute for grenadine. There’s more than one way to achieve pink coloring by using a grenadine substitute such as Raspberry Syrup or Strawberry Syrup.
- Use rum instead of tequila. Make a Rum Margarita by swapping the tequila for rum, which makes a delicious summer drink.

Recipe Notes and Tips
- For a darker or lighter pink color: just add more or less grenadine to adjust the lightness or darkness of your cocktail. It will taste delicious either way. You can also try a Watermelon Margarita or a Prickly Pear Margarita for an extra pinkish color and fruity flavor.
- Use sugar instead of salt. You can use coarse sugar to rim the glass edge and if making this for a holiday or theme can even use colored sugar crystals.
- Triple sec or Cointreau? Either Triple Sec or Cointreau will work for this recipe. I prefer to use Cointreau in all my margaritas so that is also my choice for this version since it’s closer to a traditional one.
- Use Simple Syrup. Instead of using agave swap it out for Simple Syrup.
FAQS
Yes, to make a frozen pink margarita add 1 cup of ice to the mixture and place it all in a blender. Blend until smooth and pour into a glass with a salted rim.
You can use several syrups such as Raspberry Simple Syrup or Strawberry Simple Syrup to make a margarita pink, but the best option is to use Grenadine.
