Raspberry Simple Syrup Uses

You can use this raspberry syrup for drinks, pancakes, cake, and even tea and coffee to name a few. Because you’ll only need 1/2 cup of raspberries and less than 10 minutes it’s easy to prepare anytime you want to use it.

  • Use it for drinks. If you’re a fan of the Starbucks raspberry syrup then you’ll love to add this version to your coffee or tea. If you’d like to prepare a delicious mocha or latte at home adding some raspberry simple syrup will truly elevate the flavor.
  • Try some raspberry cocktails. Cocktails such as a Raspberry Margarita or a Raspberry Martini are fruity twists on classic cocktails. It also makes a great substitute for grenadine.
  • Desserts. Your cheesecake and cake need this syrup drizzled on top, especially if it’s a chocolate cake.
  • Drizzle some on breakfast. Pour some of this syrup on your pancakes, waffles, or French Toast. It’s even great on oatmeal or overnight oats.

Ingredients Needed

There are only 3 ingredients needed to prepare this syrup and it comes together quickly too. The base itself is a Simple Syrup. You also have options of using fresh raspberries or frozen and can change the sugar to your preferred sweetener.

  • Fresh Raspberries – Using in-season fresh raspberries is best, however, they’re not always in season and that shouldn’t stop you from making this syrup. Frozen raspberries will work as well and taste great too they just need to cook for an additional 5 minutes to break down.
  • Sugar – Granulated sugar is the best option and easily dissolves into the mixture, but you can also use maple syrup, honey, or your preferred sweetener. If using something like Stevia adjust the ratio so your syrup doesn’t end up too sweet.
  • Water – Using water will ensure a brilliant red syrup that is also clear.

How to Make Raspberry Simple Syrup

The flavor that comes from making your own simple syrup at home is significantly better than what you’d buy at the store and it’s truly easy to make. It will elevate any drink you add it to and has a smooth berry flavor that’s delicious. I love using it in cocktails like this Raspberry Bellini.

Process steps 1 and 2 for making raspberry simple syrup.
  1. Dissolve the sugar. Place the sugar and water into a small saucepan set over medium heat. Allow the sugar to dissolve, stirring it occasionally for about 1 minute.
  2. Add the raspberries. Add the raspberries to the sugar water and keep the heat at medium letting it simmer for 5 minutes.
Process step 3 for making raspberry simple syrup.
  1. Strain the syrup. Pour the mixture through a fine mesh sieve to remove the raspberry sediment. Don’t press the raspberries into the sieve though because it will result in a cloudy syrup. Discard the sediment.

Storage Information

Let the syrup come to room temperature before pouring it into a jar fitted with an air-tight lid. It can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 weeks but is best used shortly after you make it. You can also freeze it by pouring it into a freezer-safe container and placing it in the freezer. It will last for 3 months in the freezer.

Recipe Notes and Tips

  • Sort through the berries before adding them to the recipe. Raspberries mold easily so when you go to wash them and before adding them to the mixture sort through them. Raspberries just past their fresh date are also perfect for this recipe since they’re starting to break down already.
  • When straining the syrup don’t mash the raspberries. If you mash the raspberries into the mesh sieve it will cause the syrup to have a cloudy appearance.
  • If you’re a Starbucks fan then try the Pink Drink using this raspberry simple syrup.
  • To maintain color and freshness add lemon juice. If you plan on making a large batch or just want to keep it on hand add 1 teaspoon of fresh lemon juice to keep it fresh longer and maintain the bright red color.
  • Chang up the flavor. Try adding some herbs such as rosemary to the simmering mixture for additional flavor variations.
