Ingredients Needed

Halloween snack mix ingredients.
  • Chocolate Candy Coating – The chocolate candy coating plays a dual role in our easy Halloween Snack Mix. Firstly, it blankets the chocolate Chex cereal in a decadent layer of chocolatey indulgence. Secondly, it acts as a delectable adhesive, seamlessly uniting all the other enticing ingredients to create a cohesive and scrumptious ensemble.
  • Chocolate Chex Cereal – When crafting a Halloween snack mix, chocolate Chex cereal or any other version of Chex serves as a fantastic base. Its crunchy texture and mild flavor provide a perfect canvas to absorb the flavors of other ingredients.
  • M&M’s – M&M’s ghouls mix, or any other version of M&M’s designed for Halloween, can be a delightful addition to your Halloween snack mix. These colorful and themed candies can add a pop of vibrant colors and a burst of chocolaty sweetness to your mix.
  • Candy Corn – Harvest candy corn, or any other version of candy corn, can be a classic and seasonal addition to your mix. These iconic triangular candies can infuse a touch of nostalgia and sugary sweetness into your blend.
  • Sprinkles – Halloween sprinkles, regardless of their specific design or theme, are perfect for adding a festive and decorative flair.

How to Make Halloween Snack Mix

  1. Prep. Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment and set it to the side.

  1. Melt the chocolate. In a microwave-safe bowl or the original container, follow the package instructions to melt the chocolate candy coating. Typically, this involves microwaving it for around 2 minutes, making sure to stir every 30 seconds until it becomes smooth and fully melted. Be cautious not to overheat the candy coating, as excessive heat can cause it to scorch and thicken to a point where it won’t coat the mix evenly.
  2. Coat the cereal. Similar to Christmas Chex Mix, place the Chex cereal in a large bowl and pour the melted chocolate on top. Toss to coat the cereal evenly. Pour the coated cereal out onto the prepared baking sheet and spread it in an even layer.

  1. Layer on the mix-ins. Spread the remaining ingredients on top starting with the largest items such as the pretzels and finishing with the smallest such as the sprinkles.

Recipe Notes and Tips

  • Work quickly. Once you’ve melted the chocolate you will need to work quickly so it doesn’t harden too fast. The chocolate is used to hold the other mix-ins together.
  • Stir gently. When combining the candy coating with the cereal, stir gently and thoroughly to ensure an even coating, but also to avoid breaking the cereal pieces. A rubber spatula can be useful for this.
  • Cool completely. After mixing, spread the snack mix on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and allow it to cool completely. This helps the coating set and ensures a crunchy texture.
  • Get creative. Have fun with the process! Decorating the mix with additional Halloween-themed sprinkles or edible eyes can add a whimsical and spooky touch to your creation.

Storage Information

Storing Halloween snack mix properly is essential to keep it fresh and maintain its crunchy texture. Here’s how to store it:

  • Cool and Dry: Before storing, ensure that your Halloween snack mix has cooled completely. It should be at room temperature and no longer warm to the touch.
  • Use Airtight Containers: Transfer the snack mix into an airtight container. A sealable plastic or glass container with a tight-fitting lid works best. Make sure the container is clean and dry before adding the mix.
  • Store at Room Temperature: Halloween snack mix is best stored at room temperature. Keep it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture. Avoid storing it in the refrigerator, as the cold and humidity can affect the texture.
