Ever wondered what the difference is between a daiquiri vs margarita? If you love this margarita then you’ll also love this Raspberry Daiquiri, which is similar, but they do have some slight differences with the base alcohol being the main one.

Ingredients

There are many margarita flavors and the classic Margarita on the Rocks will always be one of the most popular cocktails to make, but there’s something about adding fruit to one that just works. Perhaps it’s the berry flavor that’s bursting in this version but it makes for a smooth and tangy taste with a sweet finish.

Ingredients in a raspberry margarita.
  • Tequila – opt for a tequila blanco rather than a reposado, which has a strong aged flavor to it.
  • Triple Sec (Orange Liqueur) – I prefer to use Cointreau in all the margaritas I make, however, use the brand you prefer.
  • Fresh Squeezed Lime Juice – there’s nothing better than fresh-squeezed lime juice in a margarita and this fruity margarita is no different. Since this recipe calls for fresh raspberries then I suggest also using freshly squeezed lime juice.
  • Raspberry Syrup (or Simple Syrup) – The raspberry syrup adds so much flavor to this margarita, but if you don’t feel like making any or have any on hand then use simple syrup or even agave to add a hint of sweetness.
  • Raspberries – since the raspberries are the stars of the cocktail you’ll want to use fresh raspberries, but if they’re out of season or you only have frozen ones those will work too. Using frozen raspberries will make this drink similar to a frozen margarita like this Frozen Pineapple Margarita.

How to Make a Raspberry Margarita

Process steps 1 and 2 for making a raspberry margarita.
  1. Coat the glass rim. Run a lime wedge around the edge of the glass to coat it in lime juice. This will help adhere the salt to the rim.
  2. Salt the rim. Pour some coarse salt into a shallow and flat dish and dip the coated edges of the glass in the salt making sure to coat the entire rim.
Process step 3 for making a raspberry margarita.
  1. Blend. Add all of the ingredients with a ½ cup of ice to a blender and blend until smooth. This step is essential for a smooth drink, similar to the Watermelon Margarita. Pour directly into the prepared glass or serve it over ice..

Variations

  • Add some spice – add some fresh jalapeno to the blender before blending all the ingredients for a spicy kick. Be sure to add a few rings of fresh jalapeno to garnish the glass as well.
  • Blend in more berries – you can change up the raspberries to blueberries, or you can make it into a mixed-berry margarita.
  • Coat the rim in sugar – instead of salting the rim of your raspberry margarita use coarse sugar. If making it for the holiday use colored sugar crystals.

Recipe Notes and Tips

  • For a smoother texture – muddle the raspberries in a cocktail strainer and then add all the ingredients. Shake with ice and strain into your prepared glass.
  • Make it into a pitcher – multiply the ingredient amount by 4 or slide the serving size on the recipe card up to your desired amount for a full pitcher.
  • Turn it into a frozen margarita – use frozen raspberries and increase the amount of ice to 1 1/2 cups.
