Breve Latte

Experience coffee perfection in every sip with a sumptuous Breve Latte. Crafted using the finest espresso and the smoothest steamed half-and-half, it’s a harmonious symphony of flavors and textures.

Simple lattes like the breve latte are often my favorite, which is why I also prefer ones with a subtle sweetness such as the Honey Latte. When I crave something sweeter I usually turn to a Caramel Latte.

What is a Breve Latte?

A breve latte, often referred to simply as a “breve,” is a rich and creamy coffee beverage that’s similar to a traditional latte but made with a unique twist in its ingredients. Instead of using regular milk, a breve is made with half-and-half, which is a dairy product that combines equal parts of whole milk and heavy cream. This gives the breve its distinctive, luxurious creaminess and a higher fat content compared to a regular latte.

Breve lattes are favored by those who enjoy a richer, more decadent coffee experience. The use of half-and-half imparts a luxurious, velvety texture, delivering a delightful creaminess that distinguishes it from ordinary coffee beverages.

Ingredients Needed

Crafting this lusciously creamy and frothy beverage requires just two essential ingredients: espresso and half & half.

When it comes to brewing the perfect espresso, you have several options at your disposal. The simplest method involves the use of an espresso machine, ensuring a consistent and authentic flavor. Alternatively, a Nespresso machine is a convenient choice that still guarantees a delightful result. If you prefer a more rustic approach, opt for a robust dark roast and brew it using a French Press for a rich, full-bodied espresso.

In times when you’re pressed for time or resources, don’t hesitate to rely on instant espresso as a quick and convenient substitute.

How to Make a Breve Latte

  1. Pour in the espresso. Pour the prepared espresso into the glass first.
  2. Steam or froth the half & half. Pour the milk into a small saucepan and heat it on medium heat until scalded, but not boiling. If you have a frother you can then froth the milk next or follow these guidelines on How to Froth Milk. Pour the milk into the glass and fill it almost to the very top.
  3. Reserve the foam. As you pour the milk into the mug with the espresso shot, ensure that you keep the foam from entering by using a spoon.
  4. Add the foam. Scoop the foam on top of the latte.

Recipe Notes and Tips

  • No half & half? Should you find yourself without half & half, a suitable substitute can be easily created by combining equal parts of whole milk and heavy cream.
  • Add some flavored syrups. To sweeten or add flavor to your latte you can mix in a flavored syrup such as Brown Sugar Syrup, Vanilla Syrup, or even a Simple Syrup.
  • Add a topping. You can add some Whipped Cream (especially Cinnamon Whipped Cream) for an extra indulgent drink and then drizzle some additional caramel sauce on top.
