  • Can be made in a baking dish or a skillet. It doesn’t matter whether you use a baking dish or a skillet for this recipe. If you plan on eating it right after it’s prepared I recommend using a skillet to keep it nice and warm.
  • Perfect for summer picnics or potlucks. This peach crumble recipe is easy to bring to any picnic or potluck and doesn’t have to be served warm. It’s delicious at room temperature too.

Ingredients Needed

Easy peach crumble ingredients in various bowls.
  • Peaches – Fresh peaches will always be best for this recipe and you want to choose ones that are ripe. Ripe peaches are yellow around the center, have a slightly sweet smell to them, and are soft to the touch. It’s not necessary to use fresh peaches though, and in fact, canned peaches and frozen will work just as well.
  • Bourbon – This is an optional addition, but it really brings out a unique woody flavor to the crumble. You can swap it out for molasses too.
  • Butter – Similar to when you’re making a pie crust you want the butter to be chilled and cubed. Use unsalted butter since there is already salt mixed into the topping.

How to Make Peach Crumble

Start by preheating your oven to 375º F and lightly greasing a 10-inch skillet or an 8×8 baking dish with cooking spray.

  1. Coat the peaches. Place the sliced peaches or drained canned peaches into the bottom of the prepared dish and pour the bourbon, if using, on top. Toss to coat.
  2. Mix the crumble ingredients. In a large bowl, add the flour, sugar, brown sugar, salt, and cinnamon and whisk them together until evenly mixed.
Peach crumble recipe process steps 1 and 2.
  1. Cut in the butter. Using a pastry cutter or the back of 2 forks cut the cubed butter into the flour mixture until a coarse meal starts to form. The butter doesn’t have to be perfectly cut into the mixture.
  2. Add the crumble layer. Sprinkle the mixture over the peaches and top with some crushed pecans or pecan halves (optional).
Peach crumble recipe process steps 3 and 4.
  1. Bake. Place the dish or skillet into the prepared oven and bake for 45 to 50 minutes or until the topping begins to bubble and has turned a golden brown. Let cool for 5 to 10 minutes before serving.

Recipe Notes and Tips

  • Serving suggestions: Serve with a scoop of ice cream such as vanilla or butter pecan or top it off with some whipped cream and chopped pecans.
  • Add more fruit. A delicious way to change up the flavor is to add more fruit. Turn it into a blueberry Peach Cobbler or try adding strawberries or cherries.
  • Don’t worry about peeling the peaches. If using fresh peaches it’s not necessary to peel them but I prefer to remove the peel myself.

FAQS

What’s the difference between a crumble, crisp, and cobbler?

Crumbles, crisps, and cobblers are all fruit-based desserts that are topped with a crumbly pastry-like layer. During the baking process the fruit bubbles into the pastry layer creating a delicious dessert, especially if it’s topped with ice cream.

Do I need to use fresh peaches for this dessert?

The beauty of this crumble is that it can be enjoyed all year long. You do not need to use fresh peaches and instead can use canned peaches or frozen peaches.
